Car and Truck Accidents in Moreno Valley
Updated . General information, not legal advice about your situation.
Legal review: Elham Azimy, California State Bar No. 207274 (law and claims only).
Moreno Valley is one of the fastest-growing cities in the Inland Empire and a major logistics hub. The SR-60 runs the length of the city, I-215 forms its western boundary, and the approved World Logistics Center and existing warehouse districts along Alessandro Boulevard, Perris Boulevard and Cactus Avenue generate heavy truck traffic on streets that also serve schools and neighborhoods. March Air Reserve Base and the Riverside University Health System Medical Center are both within the city.
The city contracts with the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office for police services under the name Moreno Valley Police Department, which matters when you request a report or follow up on an investigation.
Who writes the collision report in Moreno Valley
Collisions on Moreno Valley streets are handled by the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office (Moreno Valley Police Department contract); reports are obtained through the Sheriff’s records process. Collisions on SR-60 and I-215 are handled by the California Highway Patrol (Riverside Area).

Accident types and injuries
Accident types
- Commercial Truck Accidents — Collisions with tractor-trailers, box trucks and delivery vehicles. Higher stakes, more parties, more rules.
- Rear-End Collisions: What Happens After You Are Hit From Behind — The most common California crash. Fault usually—but not always—rests with the rear driver.
- T-Bone and Side-Impact Collisions — Intersection crashes where one vehicle strikes the side of another. Fault turns on right of way.
- Pedestrian Accidents — People on foot struck by vehicles. California law protects pedestrians, but fault can be shared.
- Uninsured and Underinsured Motorist Accidents — The at-fault driver has no insurance or too little. Your own policy may be the answer.
Injuries
- Catastrophic Injuries — Injuries that permanently change a person’s ability to work and live independently.
- Fractures and Broken Bones — Objective, imageable injuries that range from a simple wrist fracture to a shattered pelvis.
- Back Injuries — Lumbar and thoracic injuries that range from strains to disc herniations and vertebral fractures.
Moreno Valley questions
Why does my Moreno Valley report come from the Sheriff?
Moreno Valley contracts with the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office for police services. The deputies who responded work for the Sheriff, which holds the report and any follow-up investigation.
A warehouse truck hit me on Alessandro. Who is responsible?
Potentially the driver, the trucking company, the owner of the trailer and sometimes a broker or the warehouse operator. Commercial policies often carry much higher limits. Photograph the USDOT and company markings. See truck accidents.
What if I was treated at RUHS and have Medi-Cal?
Medi-Cal has a right to be repaid from an injury settlement for the care it covered, and the Department of Health Care Services must be notified of the claim. See medical bills after a car accident.
