Car Accidents in Inglewood: Stadium Traffic, Freeways and Claims
Updated . General information, not legal advice about your situation.
Legal review: Elham Azimy, California State Bar No. 207274 (law and claims only).
Inglewood has transformed into California’s event capital. SoFi Stadium, the Intuit Dome and the Kia Forum sit within a mile of each other along Prairie Avenue and Manchester Boulevard, and on event days tens of thousands of vehicles, rideshares and shuttles converge on a street grid that was not built for them. The city sits beside LAX, with Century Boulevard carrying airport traffic east to the I-405 and I-105.
Outside event days, Inglewood is a dense residential and commercial city with Market Street, La Brea Avenue, Crenshaw Boulevard and Manchester as its main arterials. The I-405/I-105 interchange at the city’s southwest corner is one of the most heavily traveled in the region.
Who writes the collision report in Inglewood
The Inglewood Police Department handles collisions on city streets. The California Highway Patrol handles I-405 and I-105. During stadium and arena events, the city deploys traffic-control plans with officers and contract staff directing traffic; collisions in event parking lots are often documented by venue security rather than police.
Where Inglewood collisions happen
Prairie Avenue and Manchester Boulevard (event zone)
The core of the entertainment district, with event-day lane reversals, rideshare zones and dense pedestrian crossings. Pedestrian and low-speed collisions spike around game and concert times.
Century Boulevard
The main LAX access route through Inglewood, carrying hotel shuttles, rental cars and rideshares to the 405; rear-end and lane-change collisions are commonly reported.
I-405 / I-105 interchange
High volumes and multiple connectors near Imperial Highway and Century; rear-end and sideswipe collisions during peak hours and after events.
La Brea Avenue and Crenshaw Boulevard
Residential and commercial arterials with school zones and Metro K Line crossings on Crenshaw.
Common collision scenarios
- Pedestrian collisions near the stadiums before and after events.
- Rideshare pick-up and drop-off collisions in designated zones and on surrounding streets.
- Rear-end collisions on the 405 and 105 during event egress.
- Impaired-driving collisions after night events.
- Collisions with Metro K Line trains or buses, which trigger government claim deadlines.
Courts, hospitals and local practicalities
The Inglewood Courthouse of the Los Angeles Superior Court handles local civil, traffic and criminal matters. Centinela Hospital Medical Center is the city’s main hospital; Harbor-UCLA and UCLA Ronald Reagan are the nearest Level I trauma centers. Event-day evidence—venue cameras, traffic-control plans and the many phones in the crowd—is valuable but short-lived.
Accident types and injuries
Accident types
- Pedestrian Accidents — People on foot struck by vehicles. California law protects pedestrians, but fault can be shared.
- Rideshare (Uber and Lyft) Accidents — Crashes involving transportation network company drivers. Coverage depends on the app status.
- Rear-End Collisions: What Happens After You Are Hit From Behind — The most common California crash. Fault usually—but not always—rests with the rear driver.
- Drunk and Impaired Driving Accidents — Crashes caused by alcohol or drug impairment. The civil claim is separate from the criminal case.
- Freeway and Highway Accidents — High-speed crashes on the 5, 10, 15, 91, 405 and other state routes. CHP has jurisdiction.
Injuries
- Fractures and Broken Bones — Objective, imageable injuries that range from a simple wrist fracture to a shattered pelvis.
- Traumatic Brain Injuries — From concussion to severe injury. Often invisible on scans, life-altering in effect.
- Whiplash and Neck Injuries — The most common car accident injury, and the most frequently disputed.
Inglewood questions
I was hit walking to SoFi Stadium. Can the stadium be responsible?
The driver is typically the primary responsible party. A venue or the city could share responsibility only in narrow circumstances involving negligent traffic control or dangerous conditions they controlled; claims against the city require a six-month government claim. Report the collision to Inglewood PD and preserve your ticket, parking and rideshare records.
My rideshare was hit in the event pick-up zone. Which insurance applies?
The at-fault driver’s policy first; if you were a passenger during a trip, the rideshare company’s $1 million liability and UM/UIM coverage required by California law may also apply. See rideshare accidents.
Does Inglewood PD respond to parking-lot collisions at the venues?
Not always. Venue security often documents them. Exchange information, photograph everything and seek medical care; fault rules apply on private property too.
